KALIN
In Phoenix, Az Kalin was introduced to their love for vigor and a desire for fuller use of their form through watching wrestling, but a toddler ballet and tap class was found to be an adequate alternative. Their later stumble upon street and club styles through the local crew Furious Styles would ultimately shape the direction of their career and deepen their devotion to movement at large. They spent their early career training and performing as a commercial dancer, working with companies such as MusEffect, Tap 247, and Cat-astrophe, while touring with the crew formerly known as TigerStyle!. In 2016, they completed their time at Scottsdale Community College and went on to perform the works of artists such as Kathryn Alter, Joy Davis, Gustavo Remerazi, Courtney Mezika, Carley Conder and Ching Ching Wong. Kalin has presented their choreographic work at the Kennedy Center, Tempe Center for the Arts, The W Hotel, Ten Tiny Dances and other national festivals. Upon planting themselves in Portland in 2024, they began working with Shaun Keylock Dance Company. Kalin is a firm believer that all moving bodies are dancing bodies, and works to create a learning environment rooted in curiosity over expectation.
