    ABOUT BODYVOX

    BodyVox is a multi-faceted organization dedicated to furthering the art of dance.

    We create and perform innovative and accessible dance works that entertain, inspire and uplift audiences of all ages. We teach dance classes to students of all ages and abilities, from children to adults, professional and recreational.

    Considered among America’s most innovative dance companies, BodyVox is known for its visual virtuosity, distinctive wit, and unique ability to combine dance, theater, and film into breathtaking productions rich in imagery, athleticism, and humor. We view dance as a powerful, inclusive language for communication because it is nonverbal, capable of bridging cultural differences and generations.

    BodyVox is led by Co-Artistic Directors Jamey Hampton and Ashley Roland, artistic collaborators on the world stage for over four decades. Now in its 28th year, BodyVox is a vital member of the Portland arts community. The BodyVox Dance Center, located in NW Portland, has become a nexus for creativity and inspiration, serving multiple disciplines seven days a week with five studios and a 180-seat theater. Through ongoing collaborations with every major arts organization in town, 70 classes a week serving 800 students of all ages and abilities, as well as performances and residencies year-round, BodyVox is a model of how the arts create community through rigor and joy.

    Development Director Position

    The Development Director is a vital part of the BodyVox organization. They are responsible for scouting, procuring and overseeing annual donations of over 1.2 million from individuals, foundations and organizations to ensure the financial stability of BodyVox. This position acts as an outward facing representative of BodyVox for all shows and fundraising efforts and they are crucial for maintaining positive patron and board member relations.

    Duties and Responsibilities Include:

    Fundraising Strategy Development-

    • Design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes individual giving, grants, special events and corporate sponsorships

    • Look for creative opportunities to fund BodyVox

    • Use sales, spending cycles, season performance calendar, and events to guide fundraising campaign decisions

    • Work with Director of Operations to create realistic annual fundraising goals

    Donor Relations -

    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors, overseeing timely communication and recognition of their donations

    • Work closely with Marketing Director to create messaging to patrons

    • Oversee annual year end fundraising campaigns that historically include: mail, online, tele funding and personal solicitations

    • Work with current board members, community members and internal leadership team to create a strategy to recruit potential board members

    • Attend all BodyVox performances and events

    • Assist in hospitality needs for donor related events

    • Act as primary point of contact for patrons

    • Oversee data input into our database (Neon One - Arts People)

    • Direct stewardship of donors - BodyVox is committed to treating donors and patrons as the valued resource they are.

    • Communicate development status and needs to the Board of Directors

    Team Leadership -

    • Leads the Grants Manager in writing grants and content creation towards new audiences

    • Create agenda and lead weekly development meetings with Artistic Directors, Director of Operations & Grants Manager

    • Collaborate with other departments to align fundraising efforts with organizational goals

    • Educate, motivate and engage staff & dancers in ways they can help support the organization.

    • Attend and present at Board meetings

    Special Events -

    • The Development Director is also a key player in all fundraising and cultivation events, including but not limited to the master planning of our annual gala, rehearsal events, summer thank you party, house parties, opening night parties

    • Collaborate with staff, dancers and volunteers to ensure successful event execution

    Experience -

    • We are a nimble organization with many moving parts. This position needs to be flexible and able to wear several hats at any given time.

    • We operate in a collaborative environment. We are not top-down.

    • Familiarity and passion with working in the arts is essential

    • Proven fundraising leadership experience is essential. Related experience outside of the nonprofit environment will be considered

    • Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, and meet deadlines in a high-volume, fast paced environment is needed

    • Ability to work on-site on a regular basis to communicate and connect with our team and community

    • Possess an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to creatively and quickly problem solve

    • Interest and passion for developing relationships with donors founded by a deep sense of high touch hospitality and care

    Vision for the 1st Three Years -

    • Develop relationships with current donors and team

    • Bring in new and diverse donors as loyal patrons of the organization

    • Surpass historical fundraising and attendance numbers for our annual gala

    • Grow individual, grant, and government funding budgets year over year
