ProLab Dance and BodyVox are proud to present renowned American choreographer, dancer, dance theorist, and author Deborah Hay in a solo lecture and performance at BodyVox Dance Center on September 27th at 6:00pm.

Deborah Hay, born in 1941, has achieved icon status among choreographers. Her work was formulated in the 1960s experimental Judson Dance Theatre in New York, one of the most radical and influential postmodern art movements. Hay’s dances center on undoing the body’s reliance on learned behavior by enlarging the field from which a dancer can resource movement. She spent many years creating large group works using mostly untrained dancers and later transitioned into choreographing solo works for notable artists including Mikhail Baryshnikov. She has been awarded many grants and awards including a NYC Bessie Award in 2004 for her quartet, The Match, and the inaugural and groundbreaking Doris Duke Artist Award in 2012. On May 5, 2015 France’s Minister of Culture and Communication awarded Hay the title of Chevalier De L’ordre des arts et des Lettres.

While in PDX, Hay will also be teaching an intensive dance workshop September 22 - 26, 2025 at ProLab Dance Studios. For more information and to register go to prolabdance.com/workshops
