ANNA HOOPER

TEACHER

Anna Hooper has expressed herself through movement all her life. Her roots start in Vancouver, WA at local studios, Dance Fusion NW and NW Classical Ballet. Through middle and high school, Anna attended Vancouver School of the Arts and Academics and eventually became a member of Portland's The Jefferson Dancers. Anna had the privilege of touring internationally to China with The Jefferson Dancers and presenting choreography for the 2012 & 2014 National High School Dance Festivals in Philadelphia and Miami. After graduating high school concurrently with an Associate of Arts degree from Clark College, Anna proceeded to SUNY Purchase College & Taipei National University of the Arts, graduated in 2018 summa cum laude with a BFA in dance performance and composition, minor in psychology, and the Outstanding Senior Award.

Anna has performed works by Kyle Abraham, Sidra Bell, Sue Bernhard, Laura Cannon/ProLab Dance, Merce Cunningham, Tracey Durbin, Valerie Green/Dance Entropy, Jessica Hightower, Keerati Jinakunwiphat, Shaun Keylock/Conduit Dance, Tere Mathern, Sara Parker, and Jonathan Riedel. In 2019, she danced in the chorus for the film Cunningham directed by Alla Kovgan. She is proud to have assisted Kyle Abraham in rehearsals with New York City Ballet for the creation of The Runaway, recognized by NY Times critics as one of the best dance works of 2018During this time living in NYC, Anna had the honor of performing and choreographing for the American Dance Guild’s Festivals and Bare Bones Choreography Showcase. 

Since moving back to the PNW, Anna has made a name for herself as a robust and illuminating performer, choreographer, collaborator, and instructor. She has choreographed for BodyVox’s pre-professional dance company (JAG), in addition to Stumptown Stages for their 2022 production of Tinderella: The Modern Musical. Anna is certified in the GYROTONIC® method and serves as the Studio Manager to Kinespirit Circle, a prominent boutique Pilates & GYROTONIC® Studio in Portland’s vibrant Pearl district. Anna believes in the power of care and empathy for others, she considers supporting people’s movement goals and journey as one of the greatest joys and privileges in her life.
